I’m still puzzled how I could finish top 10 in Stonemaster’s
tournament. It’s something I do not expect. I certainly hoped for it
but definitely did not believe it was possible.
Here’s why I think I got 7th position in the tourney:
No job, no problem.

‘Normal’ in this case is around 1600-1700. Previous WCN rating was at 1400+.
I’m at a relative’s house using Maxis broadband instead of TMNet Streamyx. Needless to say there is almost no incidents of disconnection and that has helped push my overall rating to about 1700.

I just wanted to ‘repair’ my rating after the horrible connections [...]

I had about 2 hours sleep (coffee overload) before playing in the first tournament (for me) in the year - the Engitex tournament.

For yesterday’s CAS tourney, I just didn’t put in the effort and sweat. So my horrible 3/7 results was definitely deserved. Still I’m quite satisfied as there were many fighting games and I didn’t lose totally like a patzer.( shameless self consoling excuse :)) In fact, I see a positive TPR from the results. [...]

Failure. My targeted 1800 rating at WCN could not be reached.
In fact my bullet rating is still pathetic 1460 .
At least, my blitz rating has risen to 1727.
I discovered that 10 minute chess is still considered only ‘blitz’ and so I did not play any standard game time control to increase my Standard [...]

Carry on my study on 2 defences against 1.d4 and 1.e4 each.

One of the cool features I like about WCN is the rating graph. I especially like the multiple ratings for 3 different time controls such as bullet, blitz and standard. Last year WCN only had one overall rating no matter what time control you chose to play.
