1600 and rising

Previously I only had a rating of 1333 for my standard. I really hate to play in time controls that are more than 5 minutes because there is a tendency that you will be pitting your skills against a computer engine.

Last night I had no choice and had to play more standard time control (20 minutes and above!) because I must meet the requirements of having played 20 standard games to qualify for a team tournament in WCN.

Noorullah Omar had added my name into his team called Giant Killers so I had to make the 20 games requirement.

I have to say that I was wrong as all the games I played were against humans and nobody cheated as far as I can tell.

However I had to resign 3 games because of a strange bug in my WCN client that messed up the board position and didn’t allow me to make legal moves. I asked my opponent to allow me to save the game so I can log out and log in again to resume the game. Alas, none of them were that sporting. As a result my standard rating is a lowly 1407.

However since that was a 70 point increase from my previous 1333, my overall rating went up to 1637. I’m happy with that. At least 1600+ looks more respectable. :)

The time for the WCN team is as follows:

November 11th 3 pm EST 1st Round
November 12th 11 am EST 1st Round
November 25th 3 pm EST 2nd Round
November 26th 11 am EST 2nd Round

December 9th 3 pm EST 3rd Round
December 10th 11 am EST 3rd Round

I can’t use WCN from my Mac, right?
I have trouble logging in from a PC as well. It seems like someone (i think it’s me) has registered under my nickname, however WCN says that there is no such nickname from I prompt for password recovery.

Yeah WCN doesn’t support Mac clients. Get a Mac with Intel chip and run Parallels ?? :)

That’s unfortunate. I think WCN has the best interface I’ve seen so far despite the bug I mentioned.

Playchess is another one that many have said is good but I’ve yet to try it because I have problems running the client in cyber cafes.
