Pinoys want chess to be in the SEA games
Let’s hope their efforts will keep chess in the 2007 SEA games.
To help keep its overall title from last year’s Southeast Asian Games, the Philippines will lobby for three sports the country excels in to be lined up for next year’s edition when the SEAG Federation reassembles on Wednesday in Pattaya, Thailand.Athletics chief Go Teng Kok said on Tuesday they will appeal to the organizers of the biennial meet to keep softball, chess and arnis on the SEAG calendar.

GilaChess,
I was trying to impress the message that there has been/is VERY LITTLE chess publicity and even you disagreed with me before.
Look at the coverage for DATMO. Incredibly scant, incoherent and inadequate to say the least. Was it even mentioned in the press?
I do not blame you GilaChess (at least you did something), but what happened to the organisers?
Another good opportunity lost, but regretably nobody seems to have any regrets.
Correction.I remembered seeing the DPM and TCM’s foto. But they were there to cover the DPM, not DATMO.
Malaysian,u kata kita kurang publiciti.hehehe.
It’s confirmed 100% Chess will not be played in the 24th Southeast Asian Games next year in Thailand.

Very good!
Organising an international tournament without accompanying publicity is just money down the drain as far as chess development goes. More so as local entries are discouraged to participate in one way or another, eg. high cost of entry, low publicity.
By now I guess few people from overseas remember DATMO, and sad to say, Malaysians too don’t know much.
I am not saying the organisers did not work hard, but their efforts were misplaced. Just bringing in “top” players, give them food and accomodation and ensuring they make moves over the chess board and submititng the results to FIDE is not the whole game. It is how you extract 100% mileage from publicising the exercise that makes it all worth-while.
“Malaysian Says” talk big only. We just want to know what is your contribution to our beloved chess so far??
Skuasy also got squashed out also from SEA Games even if we have right now no. 1 player in the world or she had appeared in many advertisements. What went wrong?
Stonemaster all the best to you to alleviate chess as a one of best sports in Malaysia in the eyes of National sports Council (MSN), etc.
Remis Aman, dont worry i tengah plan BIG niii next year.hehehe.Kementerian Belia dan Sukan,MSN and OCM dalam perhatian saya semenjak 4 bulan nii.Remis Aman and Andrew Ooi will be the first 2 persons that i akan beritahu plan yang akan saya buat kalau dah siap paper work nanti.
Remis,
Why are u so rude one? Just talk only, mah. What are your contributions? You can all execute but cannot plan, what’s the use.
Spend hundreds of thousands. What are DATMO’s returns?
The organisers must change their mind set. Year in year out organise internation tournaments which few people outside chess circle, know of. If you are the organiser, you must rise to the challenge and produce results. Don’t ask others what they can do because we are not the organisers. You may say you are all volunteers, but volunteers too have undertaken a responsibility and must be man enough to take the rap. Same too you can take pride when there is success.
Don’t understand why you bring squash in. Whenever Nicol David participates or wins, it is reported in the papers.
Same with badminton, bowling, hockey, football, and even lawn bowling. But chess?… regretable no. Even if no Malaysian wins, it is an honour to hold an internation on Malaysian soil… so why no report?
Many times, people give the excuse that they just cannot get the press to be interested to report on chess in Malaysia. Not even a 5cm column once a while? But we have had weekly chess in the leisure pages sometime back and QSS still has a 2-weekly slot.
Who do you think has more following? Chess or lawn-bowling or even squash?
As a matter of interest, in the Weekend Mail August 26-27, 2006, there was s report on KL Mountain Bike Carnival. Now what is mountain biking compared to chess?
Dear Malaysian Says, I spent some time i had left after working time to do some postings in GilaChess’ website. That is my contributions here since 2002. Your comments here reminded us of the old Stonemasters’ bold postings a couple of years back. Now he is executing his plans and putting his money where his mouth is
We believe, we have to make our government officials notice first about the popularity of chess with lots of activities and get chess in their (sports) policies in order to create a “chess culture”. Getting our DPM’s words of encouragement for chess promotion is not so easy.
We could use Vietnam chess as our role model. In 1980, The National sports committee in Vietnam had decided that “chess is a one of best sports in Vietnam”.
After 26 years, Vietnam have at least 20,000 players and many skill young players have a monthly salary.
stonemaster now executing his plans and putting his money where his mouth is.hehehe.juta2 lemon tau
:)

Peminat catur malaysia terpaksa mengharapkan Persekutuan Sukan Negara lain seperti Negara Filipina untuk melobi sukan catur dimasukkan kedalam SEA GAMES.sedihh….
