Never have i felt more urge then this before to respond to such a post from Jimmy below. Since this PUBLIC post is with regards to me, its only natural and justified that i should respond to it publicly.
This matter must be made clear! I am not rested today to protect my norm at all. My norm has already been secured. My teammates here are willing to clarify this
if needed too!
We, the team have decided that Anas deserves a shot at his board prize since he is doing well. We have also decided that Jonathan has a very good chance at getting his IM norm so he should play. Now the more important issue here now comes down to Mok.
Let it be clear, Mok was not “sacrificed” to protect my norm. In fact, Mok had to play today for any possible chance to get his norm. A win today would suffice for a 10 round norm against an opponent rated above 2362 as clarified by Eddy Fong. Therefore Mas decided that i should rest since his likely opponent would be Valdes at 2372. Its unfortunate that Costa Rica decided to rest their top board and sent in a 2300 guy against Mok but it didnt matter either. A win
against a 2300 would put Mok in a good position in the final 2 rounds.
Frankly speaking if given the choice, i would have loved to play today in the hope of gaining more points to reach 2400. It would have been to my advantage to play then not to play as based on the rating performance of the Costa Ricans, they had performed below their expectations! But my teammates needed the points more than i do! I dont like the statement “Yee Weng is rested today to protect his norm leaving Mok no choice but to play” when the fact was that i was rested to give him his shot at obtaining his final IM norm.
This is not the first time Jimmy s statements have been controversial. It may be a good idea to learn from Datuk Tan s book “Never say I Assume”. I cant help but feel unfair negative assumptions had been made. Perhaps may i suggest more wiser choice of words to be used next time to avoid any controversy since all 3 controversial issues had been started by Jimmy’s statements on his blog.

My two cents:
This definitely clarifies many issues.Now with mistaken assumptions aside, we hope team Malaysia will continue their stellar performance. It’s also heart warming to see unselfish team spirit and self sacrifice in the Malaysian team. We don’t the cash incentive Can$500 per win like Canada or the free notebooks for every player like the Philippines but we have come this far…
Pretty amazing if you ask me.
