That’s not at all surprising is it? Took the road to Selayang instead of Kepong. Stupid road signs! They appear only after you take the wrong road. I started late at 8.45am. I had to stop and ask for directions 3 times as none of the roads were familiar to me. I finally reached the school only at 10am, my petrol tank almost empty. Got out the car just in time to hear Encik Suhairi on the loud speaker’s saying “…boleh mula round pertama” (.. you can start your round 1.. ). I ran in…
Anyway I have to thank the organisers again. Not only did they pair me up even though I was late and couldn’t confirm my entry, they gave me FREE entry!
My first round opponent: FM Johan Iskandar. The last time we met it was a draw where I almost beat him.Of course I am sure that was because he didn’t take the game seriously enought at that time. This time the game went into similiar lines as the previous game but Johan was very careful taking a little extra time to make the opening moves. Obviously he didn’t want to make the same mistake and lose to this patzer.
I lost in a mere 15 moves. No pain there because Johan is obviously strong and I was happy just to have found the place and getting in just as the first round started.
Since the game was short, I’ll type it now:- Gilachess vs FM Johan.
1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.f4 g6 4.Nf3 Bg7 5.Bc4 a6 6.a4 d6 7.O-O e6 8.d3 Nf7 9.Qe1 O-O 10.Qh4 d5 11.Bb3 Nd4 12.Nxd4 cxd4 13.Ne2 Nxd4 14.dxe4 d3 15.Rd1 Qb6+ and I resigned.
Ok a quick glance at the faces beside me, I see Thaw Chee Yin, Kamaluddin, Fadli, Fairin (Petak 64 webmaster), Kamal Firdaus,Balendran, Siti,Hamdan,Nur Shazwani, and a few other strong players whom I can’t remember the name at this moment. Stay tuned for more reports from my other rounds..
