Blackberry Smartphones

While doing exercises from Pocket CT-Art on the LRT train, I noticed some people carrying Blackberry smartphones.

I read about this type of PDA which are popular in America because they have this ‘push email’ technology.

Here in Malaysia, push-email is not as popular so Blackberries is not a popular phone here. Lately however, I’ve been seeing more people carrying Blackberrys. Just curious why this PDAs are so popular so I Googled it and checked out several sites.

For example this ‘white’ Blackberry (model : Pearl) has an innovative design where it integrates a traditional number pad with a QWERTY layout that mostly has two letters to a key to keep the size down.

The newer models such as this BlackBerry 8700g looks pretty cool.

Here are some of it’s features:

  • Web browser.
  • Integrated address book, calendar, memo pad, task list.
  • MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) for combining text and images on a single message.
  • Speakerphone.
  • Smart dialing, conference calling, speed dial and call forwarding.
  • Full QWERTY, QWERTZ or AZERTY keyboard.
  • Bluetooth capability for hands-free dialogue via headsets and car kits.
  • Integrated attachment viewing.
  • Compatibility with popular Personal Information Management (PIM) software.
  • Polyphonic and MP3 ring tones for personalizing your device.
  • Light sensing screen, which adjusts lighting levels automatically for ideal indoor and outdoor viewing.
  • Dedicated Send, End and Mute keys, plus user definable convenience keys.
  • 64 MB of memory.

Longtime readers should know, I blog pretty heavily using my old Nokia 7650 (which came out in 2002!). The phone is still alive and working fine. However, I’ve yet to replace it. Perhaps a Blackberry will be a replacement ??

Oh how can I forget? You can also play chess on a BlackBerry:
