Asus Eee PC alternative

For some time I really liked the portability of the Asus Eee PC. For those who don’t know, this Asus notebook model is around RM 1500 and very small and portable. The screen is only 7 inch!

It’s been somewhat successful internationally and I’ve seen some Malaysians buying the Eee PC.

So it’s not surprising other companies are coming out with their “ultra portables”.

One model that looks really enticing is the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC

It weighs about 1.27 kg,

LCD screen is larger than the Asus at 8.9-inch WXGA display,

Of course it comes with wireless capabilities too.

The only problem I can see for chess players is that it runs on Linux. But that can be remedied too.

ChessBase alternatives is ChessDB and Frtiz alternatives is Crafty and Rybka. Also bumping the 1 Gb RAM to 2 Gb would be good too.

It’s certainly a great portable tool to go into a chess tournament.
