Do you talk your chess pieces?
Sometimes I do. I know Kwan Pin and will come out and call me betul-betul gila
It’s one of the steps GM Jonathan Rowson advocates in his book titled “Seven Deadly Sins”. You talk to each of your pieces trying to imagine what they will tell you. In these conversations you get to gauge the interaction between the pieces, what moves are critical to be made next as well as understand key features of the position. Now my question is, do any of you follow this technique and “talk to your chess pieces” during your game?
I didn’t do this at all during the last Stonemaster tourney but I certainly practiced this in longer time control tournaments such as the Chervrolet tournament 2 years ago. I guess I used it because I was lazy to calculate deeply but I think the final results were not too bad. I finished 14th in that tournament.
