Stonemaster Amateur
The idea of an amateur tournament is pretty unique for weekend chess. To say that playing in such a tournament is easier for patzers like me is not true. It is still tough because the results are quite random as all players are very close in terms of chess strength. I have forgotten how much fun it is to play someone who you at least have a chance of beating. In a normal tournament if I ever reach the top 10 board, I would almost always get crushed by my opponent fast.
Finishing no 7 is quite a memorable for me. I played 3 easy games and won. Lost one where things were more or less even. And finally won 3 more game that were quite close and could have gone either way. I have the games and will put them up later.
Anyway, it’s a good idea and I hope there will be more such tournament organised. In fact there’ll be another tourney by Stonemaster on the first week of December. It will clash with the Asian Youth Team but it’ll still be interesting because there will still be a big number of turn out (only less juniors perhaps).
