Final Round 7 : Best tournament in my life!

I sat on board 5 playing the last round using the black pieces. My opponent ‘declined’ my centre counter 1.e4 d5 2.e5 ?! c5 and I got into a favourable French Defence variation. Pressured the advanced e-pawn and later pressured the a and b pawn on the Queen side to win a whole piece (I’ll try to put up the game later).

The endgame was Q+N vs Q in my favour. It was hard for me to win because the Queen was jumping all over the board making threats to my pawn. I didn’t want to open up the pawn structure as this will increase the chance of perpetual. Luckily my opponent blundered and allowed me to force an exchange of Queen.

That means I got 6 out of 7 !!!

This is the best results I have gotten in a local tournament EVER.

I got into the top 10 position for the second time in my life (First was in Kepong open a few years back winning 10th position). A very memorable day indeed.

PS: Does this mean the formula is to get only 3 hours sleep before the tournament day :) ??

Thanks Stonemaster, for organising such a tournament. I would have never got into top 10 in a regular allegro.
