One of the more popular belief to boost Malaysian chess development is for the country to get our very first GM.
Can a Malaysian GM really make such a difference?
Morale boost
A GM will give an overall morale boost to the Malaysian community . So far the title is something so elusive, many people are starting to believe it’s an impossible title to achieve here in Malaysia.

For the GM and also the game. The GM title is not all that easy to attain and getting it indicates a high level of achievement. Presumably this will open doors in terms of chess sponsorship.
