Intchess success?
I asked the question whether we can emulate the success of Intchess Singapore exactly a year ago. Right after Intchess Malaysia opened shop and it was received with much suspicion and negative response. Some even went as far as predicting that Intchess will close down in a few months time. Well I don’t want to comment on how successful the business is, but one year later, Intchess Malaysia is still there. They are still in business offering chess coaching and classes.
But that’s not important. The main thing is that Intchess has stirred things up for Malaysian chess. It’s the catalyst for change and I think there is more chess activity because of it.
Still, it’s not enough. We need more. Malaysian chess has picked up in terms of more tournaments and events being organised compared to past years. But we have to realise the same increase in chess activity is happening in other countries too. We have a long way to go to achieve the same level of “chess culture” in countries like Philippines and Indonesia.
