Don’t play against computers
That’s the advice I got from the late Foong Chee Leng. He told me to play more against humans and it’s useless to play against computers as I won’t learn anything from playing computers.
I guess I didn’t take his advice because for the last few days, I’ve played many games online versus this ‘chess bot’ called JSBachBot (WCL rating1958). This particular computer has a tendency to bring out the Queen early and get into inferior position. Problem is that I’ve lost 90% of the game because I just couldn’t use the opening advantage to win. It was really frustrating and I just wasted time trying unsuccessfully to beat the computer. In the end I took each game and analysed it using Fritz to find out the correct opening moves to kill off the computer.
Here’s one of the rare satisfying games that I got my chance.
The game looks silly now that I have replayed it. I think the programmers were pretty evil to include this “flaw” (moving the Queen too early) to bait human players like myself and later outplay us tactically. With a rating of 1900 plus, many human players have fallen for this bait and lost
