Chess on the iPhone

It’s a pity the iPhone doesn’t ship with some built-in games. That’s strange because even the iPod comes ready with with some games in it. One of it’s weanesses is that it is not open. Apple does not let other developers freely develope applications for the iPhone, at least, not yet.

However, with it’s Safari browser there are some games that it can already play. Of course you need to be online via Edge or WiFi in order to do this.

On of the apps you can play is chess and you can take a look at it here. Of course since it’s web-based you can view it using your normal browser but it is really optimised for the smaller iPhone screen.

There are six different types of pieces you can choose from.

Then you just play. But it’s only one player (vs the computer).

You can read about a host of other online games available for the iPhone from Wired News.
