iPhone a marketing success

We Malaysians won’t be seeing the iPhone anytime soon since it is only planned to be released next year in Asia. How sad.

At the beginning of the year, Apple created a lot of hype by announcing the product 6 months before it was available. On June 29th the most anticipated gadget of the year was launched in the US. The sales figure was 700,000 iPhone sold just for the weekend it was released! That’s a huge number!

I followed the online video and saw how crazy these Americans were, camping out overnight the Apple store just to get to buy the very expensive iPhone first (USD 499 and USD 599 for the 4Gb and 8Gb model). The hype was justified though, with Apple matching almost all the expectations of many consumer. The screen was gorgeous, for a first generation iPhone it was a 6th generation iPod with fantastic user interface.

I may not get the iPhone but I’m happy because Apple showed phone manufacturer how to make the almost perfect phone. We can only expect phone companies like Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericcson etc to come up with better phones in the near future.
