Chess stamina and programming
I’ve been in the programming industry for more than 15 years now. I feel that one of the benefits of chess that it gives me more mental stamina. I don’t know whether it’s proven or not but I believe it helps me maintain focus on a problem much longer that I used to.
I can concentrate on fixing a programming bug for 2-3 hours at a time without getting tired. I think that’s because I have gotten used to one day tournaments where you need bursts of mental energy at least 6 times (for every round) throught the day. For me, my work is like a one day chess tournament. I sit down and fix 3-4 bugs a day. It’s like a rapid game - catching and killing the bugs. My time control is to beat the clock before my project manager checks on me again or before the customer calls back to ask whether the fix is ready.

Agreed!!
I’ve been involved with programming as well and chess helps to develop our problem-solving skills as well.
Programming and chess are more or less inter-related and there are lots of chess grandmasters who are having a programming related day job.
