Vietnam now a force to be reckoned with
The results from the Pattaya tourney clearly shows complete dominance of the Vietnamese juniors. The Vietnamese boys won the under-18, under-16, under-U10 and under-8 categories. The girls dominated all the age categories!
Vietnam took the 2007 Southeast Asian Junior Chess Championship by storm this week and last, dominating the chess blitz event with wins in all 20 categories.

Next testing ground will be the World Under 16 Olympiad. Will the Vietnamese do well there too?
I will be closely looking at this event. Look out for updates on this on August 4 onwards. I won’t make the mistake of missing some ‘unknown’ names in the 2002 youth event in KL where a player with the 2 syllable name caled Wang Hao played. That’s one of my biggest regrets.
