USD 7 million funding for PPP

I woke up at 2 am with a strange feeling that something was happening over the internet. I looked at my PayPal account was pleasantly surprised more money was coming in. It was the result of work done last month on Pay Per Post and I’m now getting paid. You see, once your sponsored post has been approved, it takes 30 days for the payment to go thru. So I’m now seeing the fruits of my labour (from the thousand dollar experiment) one month later.

Not only that, I checked Pay Per Post and they announced an event starting midnight Malaysian time (2 hours ago) called the Lucky 7s. You get paid USD 700, USD 70 or USD 10.77 for a post that promotes PayPerPost. The reason for doing this is that they’ve just secured their second round of investment worth USD 7 million dollars. It’s funny I’m more stoked about this compared to the millions that the company I actually work for has secured over the last few months in projects. The reason is that this translates to more work for me but I will not see much benefit in profit sharing as I’m just a lowly programmer. They are THAT stingy. I feel differently about PayPerPost though as their success also translates to more money making opportunities for me.

That is why I’m happy for PayPerPost. The new money injection gives them the opportunity to do much more. From what they have been doing the last 11 months there were in operations, PayPerPost has shown incredible creativity has benefited both advertisers and posties. There are now 6,500 advertisers signed up with 125,000 sponsored postings. With U.S. online advertising revenue hitting $4.9 billion in the first quarter of 2007, it’s no surprise that PayPerPost model is a success.

What should they do with their new money? My personal wish is that they spend more to make their webservers faster. I noticed it usually takes a long time to load some of their pages when I log in as a postie. However, with their new website revamp I believe this is already happening. The site does feel faster and more responsive. Also the new website offers more information such as blog ethics which is something I believe is very important.

I also hope some of the money will also go to getting (and keeping) quality support people and technical people like programmers etc. Of course money should be channeled to their R&D too, to come out with new and exciting income generating ads program.

this post is sponsored by PPP but I would have gladly posted it even if it was not :)
