Pesky Spyware
One of the worst nightmare I had was getting spyware on my work PC.
Of course the company had standard anti spyware software installed in all the machines but I got infected just as well. I never visited ’shady’ websites like crack/wares/porn sites.
The symptoms were mostly on the browser side. Everytime I closed the browser I’ll find many pop-under windows full of ads. No amount of scanning and cleaning got rid of this irritating spyware. I downloaded many trial spyware to clean the machine. There’ll be a brief respite where the machine appeared clean. But after an hour or so, there’ll be a popup saying my machine is infected and I should buy a certain spyware. Of course that popup itself is from a spyware !
This went on for a couple of weeks because I could not take time to format the entire hard disk as there was a lot of work in it and backing up the software had the potential of backing the spyware too.
Finally found one anti spyware called Webroot Spy Sweeper software that actually cleaned out that pesky spyware for good.
