Work rant

Last week I worked hard at the office, often staying back late. I’ve been fixing web bugs and improving on web apps. In the end there is no satisfaction as the final result is some website that’s just brochureware and doesn’t contribute much to society.

In that week I estimate that I spent over 100 hours just building these websites for the company. My own personal site like GilaChess has been neglected for a long time as I can’t find time for it. Last Sunday I finally found 2 hours working on it. Gave it a makeover and replaced the aging Postnuke CMS with the shiny WordPress 2.2. There was this tremendous satisfaction spent in that 2 hours of work. It’s with passion I that I chose new ‘widgets’ and addons for the website. Of course, I need my job to survive and my perceived lack of value of the websites I create for the company is irrelevant.

I hope workload will drop back from hectic to normal so that I can go back to chess blogging. These days I come back late at night after work and just have enough time to have dinner, some TV and immediately fall asleep. Such is the life of a programmer… :(
