Why I love PayPerPost
The main reason is they have made it possible for my Thousand Dollar Experiment to work (final results in a couple of days) ! Which in turn means I will get a NEW quality camera for my chess reporting. Even writing this post about why I love PayPerPost(PPP) makes me money! How cool is that? The funny thing is I was about to write this article anyway but the good people at PPP made this a paid/sponsored post so I took up the offer.
I wrote my first paid post on January 2007 and have made more than USD 200 since that time. The amount would have been higher but I was not active until the last few weeks because of the Thousand Dollar Experiment. If all my other posts are approved, the amount should be about USD 300 at the end of this month.
Besides that, it opens me the new media showing how word of mouth marketing actually works. Of course one of the bad side-effects for niche blogs like this chess blog is some unrelated posts. Anyway, loyal GilaChess readers won’t have to worry about this as I will be moving the other sponsored posts to my new blogs to cover things like gadgets, holiday, insurance etc.
It also proves that you can survive as a “pro-blogger” earning income solely from your blog. However, I am far from even thinking of becoming a pro-blogger. The amount I make is too little for that. However, if I can be successful in another Thousand Dollar experiment (USD this time and not RM!!), who knows? I might consider going “pro” and join the ranks of LiewCF.com, 5xmom.com, and Menj.org.
Budding local chess players and GM wannabes, take note! If you are interested in blogging, you can definitely sponsor yourself in your chess endeavours by blogging. You do not have to go out there to find sponsors (something very difficult to get in Malaysia). Just BLOG! Of course, to be practical, write about your chess experience, share useful tips if you can, but don’t just blog about chess. You’ll have to pick a few other topics like gadgets, internet, hobbies, finance, holiday/vacation etc.
I’m sure talented chess players aren’t so one-dimensional they think only of chess (unless you are Bobby Fischer). Write about law and medicine which I know surprising many local chess players currently into.
It’s no joke what some Malaysians are already making just by blogging.
One thing to note is that, if you want to join PPP or any sponsored program, you should grow your website and concentrate on writing quality post. In other words don’t just create blogs for the sake of raking in sponsored posts to make money.
