Viral Marketing

I’ve been thinking about marketing lately because the two high publicity chess event coming up, namely, KL-Singapore Super 8 Challenge and 2ND MBSSKL CHESS OPEN TOURNAMENT 2007.
Of course these are traditional methods of marketing, where you go out to the public and expose your product (in this case - chess) to as many people as [...]

Round Robin FIDE rated tourney clarification

In a Swiss, games of an unrated player may count for rating only if these are against rated players. However, in a rated Round-robin, all games of the unrated player count for rating, i.e. both the games versus rated as well as unrated players. Thus in the Feb07 event, all 12 players had [...]

As you know on the 21st April, there’ll be the biggest tournament in Malaysia held at Mid Valley. The deadline for registration has been extended to the 14th of April. I registered last weekend at the Stonemaster tourney, paying my entrance fee there too.

Nice to see that MBSSKL has their very own website and [...]

Blackberry Smartphones

While doing exercises from Pocket CT-Art on the LRT train, I noticed some people carrying Blackberry smartphones.
I read about this type of PDA which are popular in America because they have this ‘push email’ technology.
Here in Malaysia, push-email is not as popular so Blackberries is not a popular phone here. Lately however, I’ve been [...]

Online Backgammon

* sponsored post *

I remember in 1986 when I played at the Shah Alam Open, I witnessed IM Jimmy Liew play backgammon with Francis Chin.
I thought that was a strange sight seeing two strong chess player playing backgammon in between rounds. Do you know of any other chess players who play backgammon ?
I’ve never played [...]

Looking for logo for GilaChess.com

It’s been six years now and GilaChess.com still does not have a proper logo.
As I have no artistic skill the closest we had a logo was the burning text logo (remember that?).
Found out about this artist with a unique reason for providing his service to draw a ‘monster’ for anybody (limited number).… [...]

Microsoft Sued for not having enough ‘WOW’

When I bought my Dell notebook I forego the RM99 extra for getting Vista Home Basic. The reason was because it was said (on the net) that there’s no point getting Vista Home Basic and it’s not any better than the Windows XP Media Edition that came bundled with the Dell 640m notebook.
The proposed class [...]

3 way clash of tournaments

The Malaysian chess calendar is so busy nowadays that clashes of tournaments are becoming fairly common.
For example, just last week the Kuala Pilah Open clashed with Stonemaster Under 1600.
On the 14th April, there will be clashes between the SINGAPORE – KUALA LUMPUR SUPER-8 CHESS CHALLENGE, Melaka Open and Seremban Parade Open.
I wished organisers would [...]

Reason for stopping Chess Patzer Theories

This blog is basically listed as a “Chess Improvement” blog in major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Technorati. Judging from the content here, you’d be hard pressed to find any chess improvement related article. As mentioned by the Boylston Chess Club.
To be honest, it is sometimes difficult to find chess at Chess Patzer Theories.

Accidental win

Here’s my most memorable game from the UM Tourney last Saturday. It’s a bad game as I blundered as early as move 12. with Bd2 allowing a fork that loses the exchange. However instead of simply winning the exchange with 13. .. Nf2+, Black chose a more fancy move with 13. .. Nxh2? . That [...]

Chess takes a lot of time

We all know there are benefits of chess to kids in their studies. It halts or postpones Alzheimer’s disease, that’s the popular opinion anyway. But it just takes up too much time.
For example, the theme of this blog, Chess For Blood is chess improvement. (similiar to my blog). However it has come to a [...]
