Empty feeling

Has anyone noticed today is another Friday without Quah Seng Sun’s chess column? I have a sinking feeling that the chess public has given up or don’t care whether we have a newspaper column featuring chess or not.
Only 90+ signatures so far but this weekend alone I think there will be at least 300+ chess participants from the UM Team and Stonemaster tourney. Have organisers and chess lovers forgotten how Seng Sun’s column help promote and publicise their events these past years?

Realistically, a paper which hardly ever reports on the WCC, Olympiad, Common-Wealth Championship and Datmo is unlikely to be swayed by a couple of hundreds of signatures from unknown chess players.
Best to get people with authority to write a letter, perhaps the MCF President/Secretary or at least the CAS President.
I think the local press is simply not aware of the popularity of chess as a “sport”. This is due to the fact that there has been no notable achievements by Malaysians in the international scene which is news-worthy.
If QSS can write an internet column with a popular following, then I think the papers may be interetsed to offer some weekly space. As it is, the editor must be of the view that the readers of his column is small.

Easy solution, just get the original signatures of players in the two tournaments who has not signed the online petition. Attach it to the online petition and send the whole thing (on-line & off-line) to the editor.
