Programming the PDA
Recently I’ve discovered that I can run PHP programming language on my PDA. That’s a big thing for me as I have programmed in this language for 7 years now.
PHP is a popular web programming language that runs many websites. For example this blog is run entirely on PHP.
What has this got to do with chess? Nothing at all !!
(That’s why this is filed under ‘Personal blog’)
It got me excited as I always wanted to write programs of my own on a PDA. Now I can!!
I can think of many applications I can write such as homework module where I can give students assignments and quiz and let them download to their PDA. On their PDA they can work on the assignments, answer the question which is then stored in the PDA. Later, they can sync it back the answers (via WiFi or PDA cradle) to me via internet where the work is automatically graded and the student marks recorded. It’s perfect for an online e-learning environment !! (albeit expensive as it requires student to have a PDA)
That’s an idea up in the sky but it’s definitely a possibility.
Now I can write PDA programs during my many ‘offline’ moments when Streamyx goes dead.
For those who are interested in PDA programming, you can find the application HPH on this website.
PS: I used to teach IT subjects before and experimented with giving students assignments/quizzes via the internet back in 1997. Wish I had discovered this technology earlier.
… come to think of it.. I could put this feature into my dream project - ‘GilaChess Academy’ - online elearning for chess ..
