Measure of popularity
Search engine optimization (SEO), a subset of search engine marketing, is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. - Wikipedia.
One measurement for quality of traffic is Google’s PageRank. They rank a website on a scale between 0 to 10.
From what I’ve learnt, websites with a pagerank of 5 and above are good money makers as they are highly sought after by advertisers.
This blog is currently at Pagerank 4 (PR4).

One good example of how profitable a website can be is www.stevepavlina.com (self improvement website). He is reportedly making USD10,000 a month just from advertisement. His blog is PR6.
Hmmm.. perhaps that’s a solution for budding chess masters needing income to fund their chess career. Just start a chess blog and get PR5 and above and you are set 
No more worries about getting sponsors to pay for your air fare, hotel, coaches, and just everyday cost of living. That is, on condition you can get a good and high enough ranking in the blogosphere.
Is it easy to achieve this? Well one good example of a Malaysian who makes a decent income on blogs and website is this Penang housewife and mother of five, Chan Lilian, who makes between RM 5,000-10,000 a month. I think she has at least one PR4 and one PR5 website.
If you are interested, there are many money making tips blogs. One good one that I read once in a while is John Chow. His earnings is quite good considering his website is only PR4.
John Chow dot Com is a blog that helps you make money online. He is offering to link to your blog if you review his blog.
That’s one way of increasing your page rank.
