Malaysia’s last and only chess column comes to a close
I was sad to read that our only newspaper column of chess is no more. I agree with Ching Kim Lye that we practically grew up reading Quah Seng Sun’s chess column. I just can’t believe that today is Mr Quah’s last column. I remember reading and collecting Mr Quah’s weekly game annotations many years back when chess books were scarce where I was from.
It’s a great loss to Malaysian Chess. Read Quah Seng Sun’s last article titled “Bright Chess Future“. I think it’s really wrong timing as chess is beginning to pick up in Malaysia that we should lose our only mainstream media outlet.
You can also visit Quah Seng Sun’s blog.
Since it was not Quah Seng Sun’s choice but The Star newspaper decision to cancel the column - can we (as readers) do something about this ? I’m sure the editor has no idea how chess is booming at this moment.
