Advertising on GilaChess.com
As most of you know, the GilaChess website is maintained mostly by me and Ching Kim Lye (and Vicky for most of 2005) from our own efforts without getting paid from any party. It’s all done for the love of the game.
At first GilaChess was hosted on one of those free webhosting servers but later moved on to a faster and better server which has to paid for yearly. The first year was fully sponsored by money donated by kind readers. It was a great feeling to get that kind of support.
Later, we began putting advertisement on GilaChess.com and this blog - an idea I didn’t quite like at first but it turned out fine as almost all the advertisement put up is chess related and the money has helped pay for the webhosting for several years now. In fact, there was even extra money for activities like sponsoring 2 GilaChess teams in the Merdeka Team 2006.
Although chess related, the ads were mostly foreign. Now, local chess advertisers have a chance to advertise on GilaChess first page by placing graphic banners. The money, if there is any, will be channeled to getting an even bigger and faster server for GilaChess.com and to expand further.
