TMNet Streamyx on the blink

I only got to use my home Streamyx for 2 full days. I guess that’s not surprising to many people where TMNet is concerned.

After 2 successful browsing sessions on Streamyx, the modem just refuse to connect. I have called Streamyx 1-300-xxxx number and they weren’t very helpful saying that the most probably cause was my phone lines were bad. The person I called said he could hear crackling on during our conversation so therefore concluded it was most probably that reason. He asked me to call the 100 number to fix that first. (get rid of the cracking noises).

It’s been particularly stressful the past few nights as I dissembled the wires, reinstalled the software but still failed to connect everytime.

I really had no mood to pick the notebook and walk out to the mamak stall late at night just to get online.

That’s the reason you don’t see much updates on GilaChess or this blog. Let’s hope things will be fixed by this week :(

my wife working at TM 100. Streamyx call centre always say it’s phone line faulty. As far as i concern, if phone line faulty, u can’t even get through call Streamyx call centre. I do believe Streamyx call centre or should we call VADS staff just chasing their target per day call.

So here the pseudo logic:-
1) phoneline faulty : - cannot call outside (but u can call outside)
2) Streamyx faulty:- blinking on MODEM, a) modem struct by lightning, b) ‘no IP space to accomodate’
3) Streamyx call centre:- chasing quantity of call target - not quality of problem solve
4) Level of priority of your connection - Streamyx call centre entertain higher account (eg. listed company)

Solution:-
1) Competition of Streamyx services (eg. DIgi, Maxis etc.)
2) Quality vs Quantity…

Yeah I did a search on the net and it turn out many complaints similiar to mine. There are those lucky to have no problems with their connections and there are people like me :(

Aaarrghh !! I hate to see the DSL light just blinking !!

try to check wiring cable of your house phone..maybe it’s too old to carry massive data…..

Yeah that’s along the lines of what the TM support told me on the phone. He said my phone line quality was bad because he could hear the crackling sound.

Asked me to phone the 100 number to ask for Telekoms to fix that. So yesterday morning I called them up and they promptly came to my house to fix it.

Good news! The phone line is now super clear - no interference or sounds of ‘crackling’. The modem DSL line now lights up and is a constant (no blinking!!)

Bad news! I still get no connection by opening my browser. Tried pinging http://www.yahoo.com or http://www.google.com but to no avail.

Checked and rechecked all the connection to modem and router and it all looks correct. I really wish I can cancel this stupid broadband ‘offer’ but I’ve signed a 2 year contract. Don’t know what is the penalty for cancelling. I’d rather take Maxis wireless broadband for RM68 per month (even with the 3GB monthly download limit)

maybe your DNS numbers arent set(theyre 202.188.0.133 and 202.188.1.5 if you forgot them).

anyway, its just unfair that streamyx has monopoly over the entire country with the exception of penang and maybe a 1 or 2 more of which i have forgotten…we need competition between TMNet and a few other companies which can set up non-wireless broadband as well.

not to mention that streamyx actually has a very strange thing to do with its IP addresses(IP addresses other than 219.94.xx.xxx and 218.111.xxx.xxx are rather slow).

Thanks Ken Wei.

I didn’t forget the DNS number because I didn’t even KNOW about them !! :D
