How fast is your Streamyx?
Would you believe I have not had a chance to use my Streamyx connection at home for one whole week!
This morning is only the second time I’ve had a chance to use my internet connection.
I tested downloading and browsing websites and it was pretty fast. Then I tested bittorrent downloads and it is almost nothing downloaded (0.3 Kb/s). Perhaps that’s a good thing. Streamyx has been using “traffic shapers” to detect P2P downloads and blocking them. They claim that it’s the P2P users downloading huge copyrighted materials such as movies/videos and illegal software are the ones sucking up all the bandwidth.
Anyway, it’s no big loss for me but I can’t help feeling getting slightly shortchanged here as there are a few legal sites that offer their downloads via torrents. That’s one channel closed down for me despite the downloads being totally legal and useful.
Whatever way you look at it , TMNet broadband is crippled in that respect. Still, if that’s the only solution for them to solve the slow internet connections many users are complaining about, so be it.
Also, one of the things I tested immediately was the bandwidth speed. I used TMNet own Internet Speedometer. Here’s what I got:

Decent but not fast. So what is your speed?

476/263kbps.a 36kbps loss in download speed is small and rather fair considering i had turned on my msn and was multitasking.and for the 121kbps deficit for upload…well,im not really noticing it and streamyx doesnt expect people to anyway.
anyhow,i find it stupid for streamyx to throttle P2P packets because the point of high speed downloads is basically for downloading large files.even so,at least streamyx shouldnt go around promoting its 1mbps package if they have to throttle the speed of P2P packets because 1mbps is practically designed for heavy P2P users.

1 week?!!! omg. mine’s not tat bad… i get like 900KBps but was streaming some videos at 100kbps. so my connection here’s not tat bad either. i think i’d write a guide on beating the streamyx throttling
