Kuala Lumpur was the second highest bidder to host the event but we eventually lost out to Doha. Sadly, it looks like Malaysia has no representatives in the Doha games for any of the chess event ![]()

I heard from a national player saying, the government will not support them(since they had no chance) and if they wanted to go, they had to pay for themselves. Didn’t the deputy prime minister said chess is underrated in Malaysia? i think it still is.
its unfair
sending a couple of players would have brought a world of good for our country, even if on partial sponsorship. it would hv been a good hunting ground for norms, like the olympiads. from the list of perticipant from fide, besides harikrishna, kasimzhanov n saskiran, our players would have fared wuite well.

It’s too bad. Pity. We would all have given support, though (here in Malaysia, of course! =D)
