Malaysia-Singapore match just started

After a late night finishing off a new chess website I woke up late and reached the playing hall only at 10.45am. I rushed in to CitiTel Hotel 5th floor only to see Dato Tan and a group of people leaving. My heart sank. Has the 1st round finished so fast. Walking towards the playing I see a lot of familiar faces including parents and players still there. The result board showed only 17 games has completed out of a total 70 games!

Relieved I went in to charge my phone so I can blog. Yeah everything went wrong as my PDA and phone wasn’t fully charged last night - despite plugging them in.Anyway after 10 minutes charging I’m finally making my first post.

This year I see stronger Malaysians taking part including Mas Hafizulhelmi, Tan Khai Boon, Chow Mon Ben, Francis Tan etc.

Also, notable is that the Malaysians are staying at the board longer and fighting. Last year, after one and a half hours most of the games were already finished - in favour of the Singaporeans.

We are still trailing 6.5 to 10.5. But I think the ‘damage’ compared to last year is going to be lesser. Malaysia is taking Black for the first round so theoretically we will do better in the second round at 2pm. Ok.. putting this handphone back to charge mode while I walk around and observe the games and get more juicy bits. Stay tuned…
