IntChess comes to Malaysia

Singapore based Asean Chess Academy will be setting up a chess training centre in Malaysia.

Taken from IntChess Asia website:

20 Oct 2006
IntChess LogoAsean Chess Academy Pte Ltd has opened its first regional branch, in Malaysia. Managed by Intchess (M) Sdn Bhd, the branch premises will be open in November at No. 22-1 (1st Floor), Jalan 27/70A, Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur.

Enquiries to Mr Peter Long - hp (60)16 - 233 0726.
Trainers available there are:

  • FT, IA Nguyen Tan Tung (Vietnam) - now seconded to Laos Chess Federation,
  • FI, FM Geldyev, Kochmurad (Turkmenistan) - now seconded to Korea Chess Association,
  • IM Gwaze, Robert (Zimbabwe)
  • FM Long, Peter (Malaysia).

So it’s confirmed, Singapore Chess Training methodology makes it’s way into Malaysia. This I suppose has got to be a good thing.

I don’t think this will threaten the rice bowls of local chess coaches here like Jax Tham, Balendran, Tse Pin, Mok etc because of the fees difference as well as the pent up demand for chess education in the Malaysian market. If anything this means more choices for chess parents!

this is definitely good news. the more options there are for chess parents the better. definitely a healthy competition.

According to Ms. Lousia Yip, the Centre Manager of Intchess (M) Sdn. Bhd., their centre will be officially launched at the Malaysia-Singapore match on 25 November at Cititel Mid Valley. Their premises at Desa Sri Hartamas would be open from Monday next week.

Anyone had watched FM Peter Long’s seminar yesterday & today at Pusat Sukan Kecemerlangan Cochrane?
