WCN rating up

Last night I was in the cyber cafe for several hours watching game 4 of Topalaov-Kramnik. It was also the first session in my quest to push my WCN rating to 1800. The deadline I give myself to achieve it is end of October. Compared to my previous rating it is now up by 187 points. It’s now at 1518.

Of course, I’ve been playing too many bullet games (over 100 last night) but I want to increase my ratings unilaterally in all 3 categories of time control - bullet (1/2 min), blitz (5 min) and standard (10 min or more).

Looking at the graph I probably should follow that advice of Papyn Chase and play longer games. Later, I will try to improve my standard rating. I have also got to review games to get answers to openings that I have been consistently losing to.

It was also interesting to see some regulars who always fall into opening traps that I play. For example there’s this player from Hong Kong who always fall into the same inferior opening and give me a nice edge when I play the Scandinavian as Black 1.e4 d5 2. e5?! (exd5 is best) c5 3. f4 … and I (playing Black) get a good variation of the French. I have played against this opponent first last year and from the games last night, he/she still plays the same and has not learnt a thing from the lost games. Since that player was over 1500 I managed to steal a large portion of that rating and added it to my lowly 1300+. :)

I’m sure I am also making the same mistakes of repeating inferior openings and becoming a “regular” customer to other players. Will re-examine my games from last night to find them.
