Increase rating by 470 points

For the month of October I have an ambitious plan. To increase my online rating at WCN by 470 points.

I am targeting a rating of 1800 overall rating. My current rating is only 1331.

The plan is simple. As mentioned by the recent discussion in the Yahoo Newsgroup, I’ll take all my games played and analyse them in detail. Like Seng Teoh suggested, I’ll document the mistakes and classify them appropriately. Hopefully the cycle of playing-analysing mistakes-documenting-review will have some beneficial effect and push my rating to 1800.

Contrary to what people say, I think online chess has great benefits for self improvement if used correctly.

So what do you think? Am I too ambitious or is 1800 possible ?

Maybe if you mean play games with longer time limits, say G60/5, and not blitz, you would be on your way. I know you like blitz games but shouldn’t longer games be where you apply what theory you’ve read and learned?

Make your progress results known. I’m sure a lot of the readers here would appreciate it

I’ll only concentrate on blitz - 5 minutes.

I hate to play longer than that. One reason is games with time control of over 5 minutes is hard to find on WCN. Besides I have a sneaky suspicion longer time controls a prone to computer cheats.

I think blitz is fine to push up to 1800 rating. Perhaps human sparring partners and longer contrls after that (1800-2000).

Perhaps 5/2 or 5/5 is better than 5 minutes blitz where the increment is used to cover time lost due to various latency.

Ya, I once got complaint from my opponent(on YahooGames) when I got disconnected and reconnected. He claimed that I was trying to refer to engines… If not mistaken, we were playing 10/5.

Cheers!

Actually in practice, the engine is run on parallel while the game is in progress. No need to disconnect and connect back. :)
