Formatting my harddisk
I bought a DVD-recorder for my computer and it made it very easy to backup all my data into DVD as each disk stores about 4.7Gb of data. That is, one DVD is equivalent to about 7-8 regular CDs.
The drive was quite cheap at RM133 (plus 10 free blank DVDs) from Low Yat Plaza. I managed to back up all my chess pictures into just one DVD.

Now I can format my harddisk and start from scratch by installing all my programs again. Time consuming but the advantage is that the computer will ‘feel’ like new again running at full speed without the unnecessary fragments of programs I don’t use anymore.
How I wish it was just as easy to format my chess thinking. Erase old preconceived ideas and accept new ones easily. As it is, I’m still holding on to my old openings and not very eager to try new ones. Perhaps that’s what this Patzer needs. To format his brain and start relearning new chess ideas from scratch.
