IM Oliver Dimakiling stands a good chance of achieving a GM norm with his current performance in the DATMO. His latest draw is against fellow countryman Gomez John Paul which puts him at 7.5 points as current leader though he may be caught up by one or two other players who are following close behind.
FM Julio Catalina Sadorra (picture) is also going for a possible IM norm.
Other possible IM norms may go to Wesley So, , WGM Eesha Karaade of India and John Oaul Gomez.
Sadly, this time there may be no Malaysians getting a norm for the Malaysia Open.
