14 day training plan results
My scale of success (1-10) in executing my training plans.
1. Opening Repertoire for Black
Carry on my study on 2 defences against 1.d4 and 1.e4 each.
Success: 1Random reading on the Scandinavian and Dutch Stonewall at night. Not enough study of example games via databases and actual games. Tried out these openings online but those were mainly bullet and blitz games.
2. Opening Repertoire for White
Continue my study on Sicilian Grand Prix/Dragon. Look at database games and study the books on these 2 variations. Again, use Pocket Middlegame to get some ideas of the chosen openings (also applies for no. 1 above)
Success: 3.Only 4 Middlegame puzzles a day. No follow thru in re-examining the positions that I didn’t understand in those positions. This will involve a bit of tedious work in screen capturing those positions and manually re-creating it on other programs to try out like Pocket Fritz or CE Board. Will have to do this the next time.
3. Clock Handling
Success: 3.Only 2 training sessions online playing blitz and bullet.
In the Taylor tourney, I actually lost one game on time where my next move would have checkmated my opponent. Hugely dissatisfying and not to mention a really painful game!
4. Learn from past mistakes
Dig in to old games of mine and as well as other players with similiar openings and annotate them.Publish them on this blog.
Success: 1As you can see from the absence of game postings, this was an utter failure.
5. Tactics, Tactics, Tactics
Do as many exercises as possible via PDA on tactics. Pocket CT-Art is the way to go..
Success: 1. Almost zero use of Pocket CT-Art.
6. Endgame
Have not decided on exactly how to improve on this area yet but something has to be done.
Success: 1. Also no work done here.
7. Diet and Exercise
Monitor my weight, the results of exercise and the food I eat.Success: 1. 2 Nasi Lemak episodes only for 2 weeks. But that’s because DBKL closed down many of my usual nasi lemak street stalls. One player I have not seen for seen for 2 or 3 months said that my belly looked bigger.
8. Have lots of fun
As I mentioned, it was one of the most enjoyable social event I have been to this year.
Success: 9
9. A log on progress
This is something new I added in. I’ll prepare a log on what I’ve done and a summary of the results if any.
Success: 5. Created a spreadsheet file on my PDA to monitor my results. Will post a copy here later..
Overall Success factor : 3
I scored only 4 points from 7 games. My losses were an embarassment. 2 losses to ‘kids’, the other one was getting systematically crushed by Kamaluddin the champion in round 2.
