Chess blogging gadgets
Stonemaster recently blog about his internet setup using a Nokia phone withDiGi EDGE connection and an Acer Notebook. I have personally seen his setup when we met at Starbucks some time back. It’s certainly a sweet combination of gadgets. Great for mobile blogging and to run a home based office.
I certainly would love to have such a set up but it’s simply too expensive for me. I’m very jealous and envious of Stonemaster as I do not even have an a internet connection at home (yet).
The picture above is my setup:
Pretty happy as this has made it very easy for me to do my chess blogging here. If you follow my blog, you’d noticed that I blog more often nowadays compared to a few months ago.
For those who are interested in doing the same, the total cost of the above set up is about RM 1100 (USD 300). Phone and PDA were bought second hand from Lelong.com.my. Once the hardware is there, mobile blogging (moblogging is easy). Contact me if you want any help in doing the same.
It’s relatively cheap to moblog. In fact I just invested RM 2 (USD 0.55) in getting a small PVC card holder file that allows me to put the keyboard and PDA on my lap. I’m typing this while on a bus. How cool (or crazy) is that?
The disadvantage: posting many pictures would be too expensive from my handphone but posting a single blog like this one is only about 20 to 30 cents (with one small pic as the one above).
Things that’s on my WANTED list:
- fixed internet connection at home
- a faster PC at home. Currently running a Pentium III.
I’m also in the process of writing a web service that will take a raw PGN game in text and convert it into a animated javascript viewable game. That makes chess blogging easier as many bloggers have been asking me how can they post their chess games easily on the web. This will be a big boon for me as well because I can post viewable games via PDA without the need of a PC.
