Dessert first or last?

I don’t know about you but I’ve always seen the Merdeka Team championship as dessert after the main course which is the Malaysian Open. This year however it’s been scheduled before the Dato Arthur Tan Malaysian Open(DATMO) and Malaysian Chess Challenge(MCC). The Astro Merdeka Team Championship will be on the 19th and 20th August 2006. The DATMO and MCC will be on the 21st to 27th of August. That means we will have the dessert before the main course.

Anyway, I hope this doesn’t discourage GMs and IMs from taking part in the team. But I can understand some will not want to play a 2-day-9-round rapid event just before the Malaysia open without rest. Still, the prize fund of RM 10,000 will make sure that there will definitely be strong teams vying for the prize. We will just have wait and see..
