Our boys and girls in Jakarta

The ASEAN Age Groups has started a few days ago in Jakarta Indonesia. Our juniors are playing in the under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16 and under 18 categories. Not much news out of Jakarta yet but we did pick this up from Jakarta Post:

JAKARTA: A total of 168 boys and 114 girls from ASEAN countries are competing in the 7th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship, which started Monday at Mercure Hotel Ancol, North Jakarta.

The tournament’s chief arbiter, Maung Maung Lwin of Myanmar, said Vietnam would try to defend its title as last year’s overall champion, with host Indonesia expected to be among the main threats to the reigning champ.

“The annual tournament will feature individual and team matches based on age groups,” he said.

He said the ASEAN Chess Confederation organized the tournament, in conjunction with the Indonesian Chess Association as the host.

Competitors are divided into age groups: under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16 and under 18. — JP
