Chess PDA

ipaq4150.gifI’m planning to get a replacement PDA for my previous Ipaq 1940 (RIP). My current Dell Axim X5 is great but it’s just a little too bulky. Planning to get a second hand slim iPaq 4150 (picture). It’s looks exactly like my old PDA but it has built in WiFi as well as has a faster processor. But what interests me most it’s excellent WiFi reception. It even beats the top end model like the Axim x51v(RM 1300-1600 new) in this respect.

That’ll be great for online chess as well as chess reporting. Current market price for a second model is around RM450-600 at lelong.com.my.

A PDA is important for me now as I’m spending too much on cyber cafe charges when I make updates to GilaChess.com. A monthly WiFi fee of RM10-15 is much cheaper than what I’m spending now(RM3++ per session). Grandmasters use PDAs too. For example, GM Rogelio ‘Joey’ Antonio Jr has an iPaq 3700 series. I know because he used my PC during the last year’s Malaysian open to sync his PDA. That is in addition to the free Notebook that he and the rest of the Pinoy Olympiad team received. :)
