Picture shows FM Lim Yee Weng defending against Nur Shazwani. Lim has Rook+Knight+ one pawn whereas Shazwani has Rook+Knight+ 2 pawns which are on a-file and h-file. Yee Weng is down to a minute vs Shawani’s 8 minutes.
The big news today was Tjin Hau was finally defeated by Kamaluddin on first board in round 6. Tjin Hau bounced back and beat Masrin Erowan in round 7.
On top board, Anas defeated stonemaster Fadli. Siti drew with Kamaluddin in board 2. Shamsuddin Mat Isa continued his great run defeating Jax Tham. In previous rounds he beat Chow Mon Ben. Sumant beat Marcus on board 8.
News update:
I’m just told by Anas that the Taylor College and the recent Seremban open was both won by Zarul Shazwan!!
Incredible result for this Turin Olympian making a string of 3 open tourneys that he has finished first!!
So the current leader pending the other results is, Anas with 6 points. Followed by Siti, Kamaluddin, Tjin Hau at 5.5 points.
Yee Weng’s game looks to be heading for a draw with rooks exchanged. It’s now Knight vs Knight + 1 pawn ending in favour of Shazwani but the queening square is already guarded by Lim. So a draw is the likely result. If that’s true, then Shazwani will also join all those tied for second place at 5.5 points.
