Seremban Parade Chess Open: Final Results

Seremban Parade Chess Open: Final Results

I finished with a 50% score. I could have, would have, should have won the last round but as usual just lack that few killer moves to put my opponent away. Then a 4 /6 score would have been more respectable. Anyway that’s a patethic excuse for not doing better. One point I am happy with is I am much better at clock handling. No more fear to convert a winning position even with as little as 2 minutes on the clock. So the online bullet chess practice looks to be quite effective. Now have to improve other areas in my game that I am weak at.
Sorry I digress, the real story is the final results of the Seremban Open 2006. It turned out all the Foudzi siblings won a place in top 10. Siti was champ. Johan finished 2nd and Kamal Firdaus finished 8th. Ok the top 10 placings:
1. WFM Siti Zulaikha
2. FM Johan Iskandar
3. Fadli Zakaria
4. FM Anas Nazreen Bakri
5. Tjin Hau
6. Michael Siong
7. Zarul Shazwan Zulkafli
8. Kamal Firdaus
9. Abdullah Che Hassan.
10. Mohd. Shanizzam Salleh
So WFM Siti Zulaikha turns out to be champion again! What’s notable (pointed out by kedekut in this blog comment, that in her final two rounds she beat Abdullah Che Hassan and FM Anas both very strong players with the Black pieces. Check out the crosstables here
This is the 6th edition of the Seremban Parade Chess Open. Have to thank Seremban Parade for sponsoring this event for so long. The event brings lots of public visibility to Malaysian Chess as it is played in a busy shopping complex.
Speaking of publicity, RTM was also there. They interviewed many players including Siti, Nur Shazwani, Wan Khye Theng, Anas and Haslinda Ruslan.(pictured above is one of the interview session). Unfortunately the cameraman could not tell me when the program will air. All they told me was it was going to be included in a ‘Rencana Sukan’ (Sports Documentary) in one of the RTM channels. Look out for it !! More publicity in the media is always good for chess
Overall, despite 2 loss games where I coulda-woulda-shoulda won, it was definitely an enjoyable experience for me.
It might sound strange but I feel relaxed and refreshed today. Perhaps the stress free train ride played a factor. I am typing all this on my portable wireless keyboard attached to my mobile phone while on my journey back by train from Seremban train station.
I will post the full cross table results on GilaChess.com when I arrive in KL.That should be in 2 hours after this blog article is posted.Pictures will be posted tomorrow after they are ‘processed’.
PS:
Thanks to the organisers for giving me free entry again. The first time ever a local chess organiser gave me free entry to the tourney was in last year’s Seremban Parade too. It was in appreciation for the chess reporting. Again a big thank you! The gesture is much appreciated by this patzer/chess blogger.

From the crosstable you posted at TCN, I noticed that Siti used the Black pieces to defeat the top two seeds in the last two rounds. I think her Pirc-Modern-KID system is very dynamic. I have to learn the Austrian Attack soon. Inspired by reading about GilaChess and stonemaster training program paying dividends.
