Here’s a bit of background about the coming Royal Selangor Open.
Selangor Open has been certified as the longest running tournament in Malaysia by The Malaysia Book of Records in 2000. Since its inception in 1974, this event has attracted foreign participations from countries like Brunei, England, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Uzbekistan, New Zealand, Russia, and many others.
This oldest chess tournament in Malaysian history may not be made possible if not for the financial backing from the World’s Reputed Pewter company, Royal Selangor, who lent their support startin from the 10th edition of this tournament. The Royal Selangor factory is reputed to be one of the world’s largest. Presently, the company offers thousand of different tableware and gift items ranges from traditional tankards and elegant tea sets, to captivating photo frames and handsome desk accessories. The company was appointed Official Supplier of Medals and Official License for Pewter for the Kuala Lumpur 98 XVI Commonwealth Games. Besides Royal Selangor, a lot of people laboured for decades behind the boards to make this event continues on as long as it could.

I forgot to mention the CAS secretary Lim Tse Pin. How easy it is to forget this person who has tirelessly sacrificed his time to organised tournaments after tournament for the love of the game. Clearly a person the Selangor Open and the whole chess community cannot do wihout.
