World Champion and a Mother

On the 25th March 2006, WGM Xu Yuhua became the 11th Women World Champion. She dispatched IM Alisa Galliamova of Russia in the finals with a winning score of 2.5-0.5.
All this is well known from reports from Chessbase. What was not publicised was she was 4 months pregnant!! I think that’s a first for women chess.
I have to mention here that I did play Xu Yuhua 2 years ago when she was here for the 1st Malaysian Open. It was a simul which I lost (but could have drawn). It was a memorable experience because the WGM actually took the time to show me the drawing method. There, I’ve said it. This patzer has played against a future World Champ
Congratulations Xu Yuhua!!
