Selangor Open 2006
This is one of Malaysia’s biggest chess event.
I always seen the Selangor Open as sort of the National Closed with prize money! And what a prize - RM 1200 to the champ.
Of course winners are not selected to represent the country but the prestige of winning it is second only to being National Champion.
Last year’s Selangor champ was FM Anas. It was a surprisingly good performance by Anas because he was previously well known for his exceptional good skills in blitz and rapid games. Winning a 90min + 30 sec time control definitely signals that Anas skills are maturing. He has also proven himself with convincing wins over strong opponents.
Who will be champ this year?
The Selangor Open is a 5-day event starting on the 27th April to 1st of May. This is what I’ve got unofficially from the organisers:
Entrance Fees: RM40 (CAS Members) RM 70 (non-CAS members)
Time schedule: same as last year (Check out GilaChess to see)
There is also the Selangor Junior Championship on the 29th April to 1st May.
Entrance Fees: RM15 (CAS Members) RM 20 (non-CAS members) - this is subject to confirmation
There are 2 categories: Under-12 and Under-15
Venue: The Chess Network
There are 10 cash prizes for both Junior and Open event. I have just applied for leave to be at the Selangor Open 2006.
See you guys there…
