10 day training plan
Ok. Time to get serious in training again.
The CAS allegro tournament is only 10 days away.
I want to erase the bad memories from the recent 2 tournaments I played (CAS Closed, Klang Parade) where I only scored only 2 miserable points.
I’ve found that I’m very weak with the clock and my opening. So the plan is to improve my clock handling and build a good opening repertoire.
It will be very challenging as I am also swamped with work this time of the month - with deadlines to meet.
This means I will usually be tired by the time I get back home but I will make it a point to be consistent and follow some form of systematic training strictly.
For now, I’ll reduce it to a simple 3 point plan:
1. Opening Repertiore for Black
I rely too much on my ‘cheap-trick’ and risky openings in Black such as the Portuguese and Scandinavian. They do bring me some nice wins though. However I have to be realistic and invest some time to study more solid Black defences such as the French and Dutch defence.
2. Opening Repertoire for White
Since I only play 1.e4, I meet many juniors who play the Sicilian Dragon - accelerated or otherwise, I will investigate more deeply using my databases on lines that are favourable for White in these lines. Of course they don’t have to be winning lines but lines that gives me a solid and equal/slightly better position where I have some familiarity in the position.
3. Clock Handling
I must get online and play more fast games such as 1 to 5 minute chess. I didn’t do this in my last training plan. On the net is the best place to try out my opening ideas against many human opponents.
Lastly, if anybody out there has any good advice for this patzer, please post a comment here.
