NAG: Lunch report part 2

It’s my lunch time report again on the NAG 2006.

Why lunch time? Because I’m working today and it’s the only time I can squeeze in to get a peek at the National Age Group 2006 results. So this is definitely a very unnoficial report.

Chess as a spectator sport.

Under 20 Open section. Top boards battling it out.
Abel vs Zarul
Siti vs Ahmad Eisran

Zarul looking at Siti’s position. Siti is a pawn down and facing a raging attack by Ahmad.

Siti. Suffered a defeat vs Abel in the previous round but still in 2nd place.

Abel Yap now leading with a perfect 6 points out of 6 rounds.
He beat Zarul.
This is the results of the Round 6 Under 20 Boys Open Results:

The most surprising result of all is Ahmad Eisran Ezra vs Siti Zulaikha.

Ahmad opened with 1.d4 and Siti went back to her old defence - the King’s Indian. Ahmad slowly gained space, won a pawn, an worked up a vicious King side attack.

Looking at the game I thought Siti was going to suffer yet another defeat.

However at the critical moment, Ahmad offered a draw in a position where he could have mated Siti’s King. I was baffled but looking at Siti’s face I think she was too.

Asking Ahmad what happened, he said he did not see the mate.

In the Under 20 girls, I think Nur Shazwani is leading and will be the likely winner in a group of only 6 girls.

In the Under 16 Open. Anas is leading with a perfect 6 points.

The Under 16 girls is led by Wan Khye Theng and she looks to be the likely winner going into the final Round 7.

I met Albert Ang’s mother who gave me a brand new junior tournament to be posted on GilaChess.com. Also got news of a new tournament in Kepong on April 16. Naturally, I didn’t have time to look at the other results as my lunch hour was long over.Had to rush back to office and post this..
