National Master Kamal Ariffin won the tournament with a 6.5 out of 7. He shared the same points as Fariz Shafruddin whom he drew in the final round. Kamal had the better tie break so was declared the champ.
I think this is the first time that I remember him winning a tourney in KL. Of course Kamal is very strong and has finished top 5 prize winner in almost all the competition he entered. A total of 90 players took part for the open section and 46 junior players in the under-12 section.
It was a well organised tournament by MSSMKL and I must mention the initiative taken by Encik Suhairi in pushing for this tournament to be organised. I’m not saying that because I got a free lunch and free entry ![]()
To me the tournament was just right for satiate the craving of chess fans (GilaChess people) for rapid chess in Klang Valley for the month of February.
Just the right apetizer for the flurry of tournaments in March… (last count is 14 tournaments with the inclusion of the Seremban tournament in 4th March !!)
Full report with pictures will be posted in GilaChess.com soon.
