One Week Preparation

Ok there will be another allegro tournament at The Chess Network KL and I’ve refined the old One Week Training Plan based on my past two tournament experience. Again I only have 7 days to prepare.

1. Tactics:
Using Pocket CT-Art on my ‘new’ Dell Axim to train my tactics.

2. Conditioning:
Instead of going online to play chess I’ll just play against the PDA using Pocket Chess Genius and Pocket Grandmaster 2.1.Both are pretty strong but I will play against the trial version meaning they are significantly weaker as they switch to instant play after certain moves. It’s a good testing ground to strengthen my opening.

3. Rest:
I never get proper sleep the night before the tournament.
This time I will force myself to sleep early.

4. Openings:
Choose concrete opening repertoire so that will not be caught thinking hard after only 3 moves. Potential openings to learn: French, Catalan and Giuoco Piano.

5. Review past games:
Have to look at all my 12 games from the last 2 rapid (yes I recorded every single one of them). Let Fritz annotate and take a hard look at all the position where a turning point mistake is made. Probably print or save all the critical positions on the PDA for review. Who knows? I might actually learn to avoid making the same type of mistake.
6. Have fun:
Always important.
But I always have more fun if my opponent is losing :D]
7. Take my vitamin supplements

I didn’t take my brain supplement pills last time and I felt I ran out of fuel in the last round. No stamina to think. It might be imagined or it might just be a convenient excuse for that loss but I will pop the pills to ensure this will not become an excuse this time.
I will post the results of this training plan right after the tournament on Sunday (26th February).

Wish me luck…
